Microbial Fermentation

Scorpius has a dedicated ~2,000 sq. ft. building of contract development and manufacturing space in its new campus for recombinant microbial protein and plasmid DNA production, including microbial fermentation, cell lysis and product recovery as well as downstream plasmid and protein recovery operations. The facility comprises two segregated Grade C cleanroom suites, upstream and downstream, featuring modular design and dedicated air handling units.

Each area is designed for maximum flexibility, including multiple electrical and process gas drops for use with microbial fermenters, cell harvesting, mechanical lysis systems, downstream filtration, and purification systems.

The controlled areas are designed for unidirectional flow of personnel, raw materials, intermediates, product, and waste. The design makes maintenance and cleaning easier, and material finishes on walls, floors, and ceilings are suited to cGMP-compliant manufacturing, minimizing the potential for contamination and/or cross-contamination of manufactured products.
