Position Summary 

Reporting directly to the VP of Manufacturing Operations & Site Head, the Supply Chain Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the supply chain, including procurement, production planning, logistics, and inventory management. The Supply Chain Director will work closely with other departments and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products to meet customer demands at the Scorpius BioManufacturing site at San Antonio.

The ideal candidate must have leadership skills, experience in cGMP Manufacturing of biologics, regulatory agency inspections, organized, self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic biotech environment. He/she must be versatile and adapt to rapid change with abilities that can provide a positive impact in a multi-client facing role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain strategy to optimize the management of all supply chain activities including but not limited to operations, distribution, customer experience, delivery, and logistics.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to continuously improve supply chain processes and systems.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in supply chain management.
  • Effectively collaborates with other senior leaders and supply partners to improve cost effectiveness and execution.
  • Creatively design and maintain an optimal inventory strategy which generates greater productivity and drives efficiencies across the organization.
  • Maintains optimal inventories levels of materials and supplies located in the company, at sites, and factories to support manufacturing and sales.
  • Analyzes current inventories and procedures; suggests improvements to increase efficiency of supply chain and profitability for the company.
  • Identifies optimal shipment and transportation routes with attention to consolidation of warehousing and distribution.
  • Assesses the need for material-handling equipment and staffing; makes recommendations to ensure efficient loading, unloading, movement, and storage of materials.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with suppliers and logistics providers.
  • Participates as an advisory member of the product development team, providing information and guidance on availability and cost of supplies and materials.
  • Acts as part of the manufacturing team coordinating engineering changes, product line extension, or new product launches to ensure timely and orderly material and production flow transitions.
  • Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Identifies and qualifies new suppliers in collaboration with other departments.
  • Prepares periodic cost reconciliation reports tracking data such as changing labor and supply costs.
  • Periodic travel to internal facilities and to vendor sites
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Must possess good to excellent PC skills with a knowledge base in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project.
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience in sourcing, planning and international manufacturing.
  • Have a strong process orientation coupled with the ability to operate in a less structured environment when necessary.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in working within a government contract procurement system preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive Supply Chain experience in leadership roles as a supervisor, manager, or Supply Chain Director.
  • NetSuite ERP is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

  • Attendance at the plant is considered an essential function.
  • Flexibility is required for working hours. Some weekend work may be needed and earlier or later start/finish times may also be required.
  • The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may involve a combination of office and warehouse environments and automated equipment.
  • While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have manual dexterity and manual ability to effectively use computer terminals.
